I've been hearing little tidbits here and there that there are issues with getting the HT from Guelph.
Can anyone who's got some lately or has dealt with them let us know here.
I will be needing to go at the end of June but I really don't want to make a 6 hours drive there and 6 hours back if they are no longer selling the Harlan to us.

Why not call them and find out?
I believe you need to order it before hand.
I assume that when you call, you will find out if there are any problems.

I have called multiple times and they never got back to me to say whether or not the food has come in. So I have more or less given up (hence me looking for box turtle food). I think I'll call yet again tomorrow too maybe order again or see if my food has come in but so far it's been sucky. And the worse part is this is my first time trying to order HT for my boys.

Dee, do they tell you that they will call you? When I was dealing with Panos, I needed to give him one week advance notice for big orders, for little orders like one bag, all you had to do was show up at the store. He told me they always have them because it's what they feed in house. I never had to call or wait for a call or email from them when I picked it up, only had to specify which day I was picking up when I called a week ahead of time.

No I've never order food before so I did not know how it works I called them again and said when I'd like to pick it up. We'll see how that goes. I thought they would call you when the food is ready for pick up but I guess they don't so that...odd.

I placed an order about a week ago on Wednesday saying I would pick up on Thrusday but was unable to get to it until Friday. It was there and waiting for me when I arrived.

How many bags are you picking up Jo?

I'm so glad to hear this!!

I need quite a few... LA is going to help me out, they are heading down there anyways so they will pick it up and then I just need to get it from her. :joy:

I went once, back in March, to pick up a small bag, and called multiple times and even sent an email because I didn't get any confirmation call about the order. After many days, I got a disgruntled return call indicating that I should not continue calling and that no return call would be made for confirmation for this type of order.

Needless to say, when I arrived to pick up the bag, it was all set and waiting for me. It's just a bit disconcerting not to have a confirmation that the call actually went through correctly -- distrust of technology on my part I suppose!

Funny though, my boys aren't eating this Harlan the way they did the previous batch I had from Mumsy. They're consuming far more of the Oxbow currently, so I'm kind of wondering how old the Harlan that I picked up was.

Trillium, you can check the milling date on the bags. But my rats go through spurts as well where they eat lots of Oxbow and then they switch to HT and back again.

I picked up two 10 lb bags a month or so ago. I'm not sure if I saved the email, but it basically said that our emails would be ignored due to staff changes and that the safest way to reach somebody was through the phone. So we phoned, and our food was ready two days later. I don't think we received confirmation -- they just said it would be ready in two days when we phoned, and it was. I'm a bit worried that people seem to be having more trouble with them now, especially since we need to pick up new food soon. Oh well.

So I got my bag of HT today, but there was a problem.

They never ordered in a bag for me. Instead they let me buy a bag of food that someone else had ordered a month ago and never picked up. If that food hadn't been there I would have drove to Guelph for nothing. I had order the bg bag last Friday and apparently they never got my message.

Therefore Jo I would say watch out. I don't know what's going on.

I called today to make an order... they will no longer be doing large orders, only 1 to 2 bags at a time. Because of the pandemic, they must keep a 3 months supply of animal food on hand at all times. When they do large orders, they lose track of their inventory. They might consider it if you call 4 to 6 weeks in advance but even then she's not sure if they will do it. :sad3:

Guess you need all your family members, including each rat? to order 2 bags each ...
to be all picked up at the same time.
That would work ....
