Inca and Lilith will be going in very soon to Dr. Munn for their respective procedures. I am not sure what will happen with Lilith, she may not to be scheduled for an operation later on to have that growth removed, if its not easily removeable, but Inca will be having a lot more of her leg amputated as her stump is becoming ulcerated.

I am a bit (read a lot) worried about Inca's procedure, as its not a small surgery. So wish them both lots of luck today.

Is Dr. Munn removing the stump because it keeps getting infected?
I remember a long time ago, when we had Sven amputated, my vet took the leg at the thigh and not the foot for that exact reason. But Clod is fine with his... go figure.

It's ulcerating and very sore, infection is only a matter of time. He wanted to remove it sooner than later, so I would assume he would remove it at the thigh.

How did Sven do afterwards? I am worried about pain, etc.

Sven was 23 months old when that happened... and the little bugger wanted to go off running once he was brought home from the vet. He just wouldn't stay still. I don't think he was in much pain, tried climbing and playing right away. Some rats just don't know to relax. lol

Do you mean Chelle's boy Clod?

Good luck to the ladies

Hope it goes well for both.

We had a dog years ago and the vet took the whole leg off at his shoulder for the same reason
.... so there would not be a stump left to become infected.

Ya, doesn't he have a stump? Or am I thinking of someone else...

His was amputated way up the thigh right away.

Inca is done. The leg was removed and looks good. I am going to be sent home with injectable buprenorphine along with metacam for her pain.

hello Pica behaviour.

Lilith is about to be looked at, but if the thing needs to be removed it won't be able to be done today. Depending on what Dr. Munn finds during his examination, we may put it off until tomorrow or next week.

So glad that Inca's procedure went well and that she is doing OK. Kisses to her  tonight from me & my crew. Lilith will give us a reason to check in often over the holidays.

Lilith had the scab removed, and was cleaned up. Dr Munn is not completely confident that it is not an underlying tumour so we are going to treat with antibiotics, metacam and a special lotion for now, and see if it gets better. If it doesn't we will have to reconsider some things.
