So I really need some help or advice with these two girls because I've never had a problem with my previous four rats that I've had in the past.
I have had to buy 3 different cage bottoms for the bottom of my girls' cage because they will not stop chewing the corners of the cage wide open. One of them has gotten out before but she didn't go very far, it's still a concern since I have cats living in the house as well.
This is the fourth cage bottom I have gotten them and I have the two worse corners fixed and blocked off so now they cant access them. However, recently one of the girls started chewing another hole in a different corner! I caught her doing it and managed to deter her with some food. I've tried everything to get them to stop. They are only 11 months old, not even a year yet. They have plenty of chewable toys and they are well fed and always have plenty of water. I take both of them out for hours at a time throughout the day so they aren't bored in the cage all day long. They have a huge three story cage so I dont think space is an issue for them. Like I said, I've never had a problem like this before.
I just can't afford to keep buying new bottoms for the cage. I would love whatever advice you folks can give me.
