Thanks for the info. Ratticus :)

It's good to know that for next time - because with rats, I'm sure that there will be a next time.

With the bedding change from aspen to pelletted paper and the antibiotics, she is on the road to recovery. She still has a few sniffles now and then, but she looks like she is almost there :)

Hopefully your rattum is feeling better too!

She fooled me.

She is STILL making nasty noises. I'm not sure what to do.

I called the vet and he told me he doesnt know what he can do and was going to refer me to the exotic vet in Guelph. I don't like Guelph... I had a very nasty experience there, and as a result, I do not trust them... at all. BUT if it comes to it I will take her there, just being very wary of what they are telling me.

He also said I could have her referred to Links Road animal hospital (is this the right name?) by the 401 in Toronto area. Havent heard much about them either.

This is very frustrating. Nothing has changed with her. She is still on the normal pelletted paper bedding. She was on baytril/doxy in jan/feb for the same sound (which may not have gone away, she could have been hiding it from me as she has been for the past few days) then she was on baytril/azithromycin. There must be another combo of meds?

Should I ask my vet for chloramphenicol? Is it worth the try? Even after all the previous combos?

He also said that he doesnt think it has anything to do with the heart because the heart issues would be more in the throat then in the nose (this is for sure in the nose - at least in my opinion it is since she doesn't make the noise with her mouth open...).

Should I take her in again to see him? This was all over the phone. He has seen her pretty recently, so he was confortable talking to me about her over the phone... but...

*sigh* Poor girl... She seems fine normally, its jsut when she honks, you can see her breathing deeper, and her fur gets a bit poofy. She doesnt have any of the other signs mentioned for heart issues...

Another thing he mentioned was a tumor in the nasal passages? But he said he would do an x ray to see, but doesnt think he will be able to access the area if it is far back enough. Thats where guelph would come in handy.

bleh... I hate having no ideas.

I asked my mom for advice, because sometimes she has some to offer and she asked gently if I should have her pts... no. not an option.

bleh.... ill do some research and see what I can come up with, but if anyone has advice/ideas....

OH and tonight ill add the humidifier - I just need to grab one from canadian tire

Also, would the corticosteriod that someone suggested be used just for inflammation? or is there another reason to use it?
