It says 20mg/ml.

It doesnt smell so tutti fruiti anymore; and Ed wont even take it in jam. I swear. Crazy! He'll drive me crazy.

Im also an idiot who forgot to put the lid back on the bottle while I was sleeping. It should still be good... right?

The dosage sounds about right, since it's a low concentration.

There is a thread that's stickied in Health and General Care that is all about masking meds. Check it out for ideas.

I had one girl that the ONLY way she'd take it is if it was in baby cereal mixed with ensure... and it had to be thick and goopy, not runny. *sigh*

Haha, yeah. Eagle mentioned in chat something about mixing it with strawberry quick or something, so I'm gonna try just strawberry quick and water and if he takes that, hope to god he'll take it with the baytril in it.

If not, I also bought baby goop. (And baby cereal for him because I can feel his ribs, and maple suggested it might help). So spoiled, gah.

So, I've been giving Ed his medicine twice a day, 12 hours apart. But he hasn't made that sound since the second day of his medication. His nose is completely dry. (I still have a ton of Baytril left!) Would it be safe to think that the bacteria has been fended off now, since I seemed to have caught it early? Should I keep going for the full medication time, despite it?

Al did something odd earlier, though. I noticed Poryphrin(i cannot spell it I swear) coming out of his nose while he was lounging in his bed, and after I started petting him and he stretched out like he was really comfy, he started twitching. It wasn't anything huge, so I wasn't too alarmed, just worried. He even looked so content while he was twitching(he was laying there with his eyes closed and he was bruxxing like he was in heaven), because I continued to pet him, which makes me wonder if it was really anything at all. Not even a minute after he stopped, he was pinning everyone down and running around. Should I be worried?

Ed needs to have his meds for the full length of time, to make sure that the myco infection is gone. Some vets say three weeks, others say 4-6 weeks. Otherwise his breathing problems will come back.

I don't know what to think about Al, although he sounds like he is doing OK generally.

Good that you have oral baytril.
Baytril should never be given by injection as it can cause health problems such as skin ulcers.
When rats are given an antibiotic and it is helping, you need to keep them on it for several weeks (at least 6 weeks if treating for myco) or the symptoms will return.

In case you need info., there are vets listed here:

Alright, I figured it'd be a good idea to ask just to make sure. The more I thought on it the more I thought it probably wasn't a good idea; glad I was right. Though, the vet only said 14 days, but from what I can tell just about everyone here(who clearly has more experience than even he did...) says longer then that. Should I go for three weeks instead of two?

And SQ, I've gone through that before. C: Just when he was sick I had no method of transport other than TTC, and since he was already sick I was afraid of taking him too far. But ... I recognize that as a mistake on my part; I plan on going to Dr. Munn from now on, and even saved the number and address in my phone.

Dosage amount is determined by weight but unless there is a huge change in weight the dose wouldn't change by much if at all.
There is also a range of dosage amounts for most meds as well.
Usually this isn't a problem during the few weeks they are on meds.

It sounds like Al has taken on the same breathing as Ed... It's the *exact* same sound. I literally just heard it in my room when I was changing their bedding. He started to climb out, so I picked him up to put him in my lap while I scrubbed stuff, and he started making the sound like Ed did. And I held him up to my ear, and it sounded like almost a squeaking breathing when I actually listened to his lungs the best I could.

I still have tons of Baytril left, and Ed only gets .13cc twice a day of 20mg/ml(or whatever it was? I dont have the label right here...).

It's the exact same thing and I still have medication leftover... Should I bother being billed again for the exact same thing, or...?

Do you think I should wait and see if I hear it again, or just go for it? I had him out for over an hour last night and didn't hear it, this was after i heard him when I cleaned the cage.

I guess this would cause problems with neutering him, huh. D: I was gonna call Dr.Munn tomorrow, even, and look into it. Dangit.

I sent his clinic an email last night asking the costs of a couple things so I'm prepared, because I realized they were closed today. I'm gonna call him tomorrow morning and see if he can either look at Al for his URI or as a check up for a neuter. Apparently there wasn't as much Baytril as I'd thought... He was making the noise again while I was giving Ed his baytril, so I gave it to him.

Lucky for me they will now both take it from the syringe. For a couple days I sucked baby goop into the syringe after I'd measured it and gave it to Ed, trying to get him to associate it with something 'tasty' so now he's seemed to learn. Al is just greedy and would take the whole damn syringe if I wasn't holding on tight enough, haha.
