They live on fleece (top level) and I made liners for the bottom level out of plastic placemats. They use breeders choice kitty litter and tissues and fleece as bedding..

I can't think of anything that could have gotten in there :/

My vet is amazing and if she does need to be spayed he will do it right then and there..

god I hope someone cancel's tomorrow!!

Praying hard for your girl!

No one cancelled today :(

She has had 2 doses of Baytril today and I'm giving her another dose 2 hours before we go in.
It doesn't look any better, but she is running around a lot more then she was yesterday..

Her appointment is in 10 hours!

Hang in there sweetie!!! :hugs:

The vet took her straight into theater to be spayed. He is certain it is pyometra. After the surgery he wants me too keep her on Baytril for 2 weeks.

Now i'm waiting for them to call and say she is alright and that I can go pick her up..

Oh I'm so glad that your vet did the surgery today. It's a good thing that your friend had some Baytril to give you. That's giving your little girl a bit of a head start on the infection.
**Still scratching head over why vet would recommend an antihistamine for an infection**

The vet just rang.. Lilly is alive, but now has a very bad rattle. She took longer then expected to come out of the anesthetic and still isn't "quite right".. He thinks she might have had a stroke.. :(

He is going to keep an eye on her until closing time and then I am going to pick her up.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear she isn't doing well - just keep her warm and give her lots of tender snuggles. I really hope she pulls through! Poor baby....

Wait until she's home before deciding on a stroke...some rats have underlying respiratory issues that we cannot know about, and hers came on from the stress of the surgery. A rat that looks unwell, off and unhappy at the vets, could take a deep, breath and settle down when home and especially when back with her friends.

((hugs))

She should heal fast and well at her age...was there any chance she was exposed to a male prior to you getting her? If her young body got pregnant but tried to reabsorb the fetuses unsuccessfully then a uterine infection can be the result.

not a chance. I've had her and Grace since they were 16 days old.

The local pet shop breeders for pet homes as well as feeders and they are absolutely hopeless.. They breed their girls until they start having smaller litter and then they sell them or send them to shelters (and they are usually pregnant when they go) I was lucky when I got Hope and her 2 sisters (who have since passed on :'() because they were the only girls in the tank that weren't pregnant.

Lilly and Grace's litter was in the front part of the store being sold to pet homes. I was furious when I saw them! They weren't even walking properly yet and had no idea how to eat and drink on their own. I talked them into giving me my 2 girls and the girl that worked there reported them to the RSPCA and took the rest of the babies home with her, she was fired :p But the babies found amazing homes when they were old enough <3

^Best reason for getting fired, ever. Seriously.

I'm glad your baby girl is doing better! Sorry you both had to go through this...I bet you're feeling much better yourself now that she's home with you, and you know what was wrong and everything. Best of luck to your healing ratty!

I was worried about Lilly climbing up all the levels in the big cage, so she is still in her transport cage.. But she was running around destroying every thing so i gave her some tunnels, a jingle ball and a hammock and let her out to play on the couch for a bit

lol agreed! :p

Oh I'm so glad that she has recovered well! I could not slow down my girls after their spay - I kept telling them to take it easy, to no avail...

I'm glad to hear that she pulled through okay and is home with you now. Poor girl, having to go through that so early in her life. And poor you! Sorry you've had to go through such a scare and stress with her. Lots of warm healing vibes coming her way, I hope her recovery is quick and she can go back to being a playful, happy little girl soon.
