I know... what I wouldn't give for a rat that could live for 5 years!

Despite being 19 months old though, Chance frolics as though he was 6 months old - guess it's all a matter of lineage and genes and stuff.
 
Just wanted to give a very positive update on Mr. Honeycomb's feet!

I did as you rat-goddesses suggested and thickly padded the cage - a thick tea towel, a layer of shower curtain (to keep the tea towel pee-free), and a couple of layers of thick cloth that I'd reserved for cage lining. So far no chewing or pulling up of the cage lining at all, which is very nice!

Also cleaned his feetsies for the first couple of days, but the redness is almost nonexistent now, just a healthy pink!

The carrots are working very well to keep him from eating too many lab blocks (I watched him once - he ate a WHOLE lab block at one sitting!) - I give them both a baby carrot, but as Chance rarely eats more than half of his, Mr. Honeycomb gets a bit extra.
