Blaze arrived at local SPCA with his tail mangled. He is now staying with us until we get it fixed up. He is on baytril and metacam but any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
That is horrible. It looks infected already in that last one. Can the infection go away? that poor boy. what about soaking it? would that help get rid of the nasty stuff on there?

Poor baby! Geez, it looks like a cat got him. I too would probably go with simple saline soaks, and making sure he's on fleece so he doesn't get any debris in the wound, and a clean, clean cage.
Ditto on penicillin instead of Baytril...
I'm glad you're taking care of him instead of the SPCA. I'm sure he'll receive much more attention at home.
Blaze's tail isn't draining anymore puss. It looks to be all dry & scabby which I hope means it is healing. It is still swollen but I imagine, if we can save it, it will have a lot of scar tissue.
Overall he is a sweet boy. He is timid but will allow us to pick him up & treat his tail. He likes to sit on our shoulders. I think once he settles in a bit more he will be more outgoing. He is very curious of everything & his nose & whiskers are always wiggling.
Glad to hear he's healing. Dry scabs are a good thing! He may have some swelling if the vessels have been damaged - fluid may have a hard time leaving his tail. If so, that should improve over time.
