bird seed mix

can i use bird seed mix which contains grit in it as a base??? can rats eat grit????

While rats can eat grits, I would not give your rats bird seed mix as their main diet since birds and rats have different dietary needs and food meant for rats will fulfill their needs better. I suggest Mazuri lab blocks or Oxbow blocks. Those are the top foods for rats, and you should be able to find Oxbow at a pet store!
