Were home ...Dr. D. had a look, took a needle out, about to aspirate it ..felt around some more and it went away ...turns out she has a Inguinal hernia ..and when Dr. D. was pushing on it, it went back up ..he said he has seen it in dogs and cats often. She must have fallin the wrong way and ripped it open ..he said each time I feel it ..just gently push it back ..he said after a little while it will scar over ..he said for the size of it, it's not worth surgery and it should heal ..but to keep an eye on it.

It's gone now, no lump at all because it's pushed back up.

It causes no pain or anything.

Yep... hernias can be left alone unless it sticks out too much or gets too big. That is good news. :) Just keep an eye on it.

:joy:

Where it's the first time my vet has experienced a hernia in a rat ..I was unsure if not doing surgery was the right thing.

Finally some good news!

Bella now has another lump on the other side .. just a little higher up ..never ends!

We will be making a trip to the vet on the 13th !

The lump dose not seem to be fast growing thank god.

I'm not sure if I want to get it removed and her spayed. She's is at least 24 months ..and to be honest ..rats here don't seem to get much past 2 ..I don't think I want to put her through all that ..she's a happy girl and I don't want to take that away ..I will be taking her in on the 13th for a check up.

If it's a slow growth, she could have quite a few months left with you.

Thats what I'm hoping ..if I choose not to get it removed ..would pred help slow the growth?

If she were younger I would be getting it done..but right now with my vet not in his right mid with his daughter being in hospital ..I don't really want to get anything big done ..Iv been through enough ..but of course I want whats best for her too.

I'm going to check with my vet when I bring her in on the 13th.

If you were me, what would you do?

ETA: I have no doubts that my vet cannot do it ..he removed 3 tumors off Hannah and did her spayed and she recovery just fine ..I just don't know with her age ..I know 24 months is not that old ..but it seems like rats here don't make it much past 2.

Watch the growth/progression, and watch her health (losing weight, etc).

Will do!

Right now she looks very healthy (shiny coat, bright eyes)
She's just as active as Toby and Teddy who are 26 months old ..but not as active as my young crew.
And she's a bit on the chubby side weighing close to 500 grams.

I'll get her exact weight tonight to have it noted!

Off to the vet tomorow just for a second opinion.

The lump is not growing at all ...

Her hernia is the same.

Not causing any problems so thats god, I don't think I'll be doing a removal.

Shes a happy little girl who loves destroying her hammocks and eating food!
