Did you check your bill as well for it?

if you cannot find the mg/ml you will just have to give him the prescribed dosage and hope its correct.

I missed the part where she said she couldn't find the concentration, sorry.

okay so here it is

"We gave you just over 4cc of Baytril. You should only use up just over 3cc of it, but we gave you some extra to account for spills etc.
Baytril is 50mg/ml and thats the only strength there is in the oral/injectable form. ''

Do you remember how much he weighed? How old is he again?

If I worked backwards from concentration, recommended dosage, etc...he would have to be 150 grams to get .03 cc twice a day

Is the Baytril that you have pure injectable Baytril or is it diluted with something. It would be very strange for them to just give you the injectable 50mg/ml to give orally. There is a suspension available at 50mg/ml but I've only seen it at the one vet. Usually they take the 50mg/ml stuff and diluted with flavoured syrup.

Is there a label on your bottle. Generally all the meds I get from my vet have a label that gives instructions but also gives the concentration of what is inside the bottle and what it is. Things like 12.5mg/ml or some such. That would be the concentration of the Baytril they gave you.

I get the injectable baytril to give orally. I do so because I get it by the bottle and the shelf life is very long on it. I also have the option to use it in my nebulizer. The compounded med only last a few weeks where as the injection meds can last a year. It is also good to use in ears for major ear infections and so on. The injection one is only 22.7 that is the only strength i have ever seen it come in.

well the vet gave it to me and the only instruction is give orally every 12 hours, and i didnt come with a concentration so i had to ask for it. im not too knowledgeable with baytril yet so my answer is probably worthless XD

Well, is it translucent and liquid or coloured with some fruity smell (sometimes they mix it with this purple syrup but there are other flavours too). That would definitely tell you if what you have is pure injectable or a mix. At my vet they take the 50mg/ml and dilute it down to 12.5mg/ml with some sort of sweet syrup. I don't think I would ever be able to get a rat to take undiluted injectable orally ... although the advantage is that the dosage is minute.

Then there's always the taste test (though I warn you, if it is the pure injectable, you may feel like puking after not even a drop). I once accidentally got some on my hand (I had to inject the Batryl on a rat who was dealing with a nasty pneumonia) and got it in my mouth and dear god! I don't know what drain cleaner tastes like but now I can imagine. I gained a lot of empathy for my rats that day let me tell ya. Whereas the diluted stuff is far more "tolerable" and the banana suspension (why that thing isn't more prevalent I don't know ... the 50mg/ml is a godsend .. you barely have to give any and the rats love it) is quite tasty.

I get the 50mg/mL injectable from my vet. It is practically impossible to get into a rat so i mix the amount I'm supposed to give with a drop of strawberry/vanilla nesquik on a spoon (I use plastic... i dont like putting meds on metal). They will then lick it right off the spoon.

This is NOT diluted, and I would guess that yours is the same so be sure to keep whatever is left over for future use. I asked my vet a bit ago to put the expiry date on the bottle and now he does that every time and it is usually over a year from when I get it.

its clear, and i never though about having to dilute it or mix it with food 0.0 i have been just giving it to him as is, and if its that horrible im surprised he hasnt put up a big fight, actually sometimes when i get some on my hand Thumper licks it off.... -.0
