When you ger her home, she will be tired, may want to eat and drink a little...offer her yummies like baby cereal and Ensure. Dr Munn will send you home with metacam. She may be picking at fleece and fabric, just make sure she doesn't pick at her incisoin. She should not be feeling any pain from the linger effects of the anesthesia and the many pain meds that Dr Munn gives before, during and after surgery.

If she does really well and is bright and alert, put her back in with her friends and see how they/she do.

:) Thanks for all the info. Monitoring her after surgery will be the hard part as the next day I start my new job. :( But I'm sure she'll be fine, I'm just nervous of her picking at her incision and something getting infected.

Infection post-surgery with Dr Munn is VERY rare...he runs a very clean Operating Theatre. I have had 2 post-surgical infections with all my surgeries and that was two RTR boys. Eli's eye, but his was a different case...His eye had burst a long time ago and the conditions he lived in were filthy so he had a minor infection that cleared up nicely with abs. Gilbert had a terrible infected wound in his shoulder, it was debrided and closed up, then a bit of infection returned, and it also nicely cleared up on abs.

So were home, have been for a while but I've been worrying more about her rather than posting. When we got there he told us that the bigger tumor was not in a sack? I assume by that he means that it wasn't contained in that skin that you usually see in pictures. Not sure if that means its more dangerous or not, but I won't ask because she seems fine to me. Only problem is she's itching where the larger incision is and making it bleed a little.

We have Metacam 0.3 for 3 days. Then Baytril 0.2 once a day for until it runs out. She's eating, drinking, acting completely normal until she started itching. So at least I know she's going to be okay, I just picture the worst when I think of her opening the incision. Anyway here are some photos of when we got her home finally. If anyone finds them too gross, just let me know and i'll put a spoiler. Also anyones opinion is needed - I just want to make sure her stitches/incision look normal!! :)

It looks very good Jennifer. Some rats will pick a the incisions or scratch at them for the first night. It may open a little but not much.

At 12 hours post-surgery you can give her some metacam.

well I'm far from an expert, only had one rat who had surgery but that looks darn good to me
and she's adorable!!
and she looks good too, very alert looking

So it's been almost a week and a half now since Willow had her surgery. She's coming along amazing! Though she has lost a little bit of weight.. probably because we cut back on everything - no treats, no sugar, no fat, nothing. Her stitches are looking SO good, the back one is basically completely healed, and the front one looks ALOT better. It looks like it's all closed up now and just still a bit tender. Let me know what you guys think of the big stitch. Does it look normal for a week later?

Big, front stitch:

Well, it's been a month and a day today since her surgery. A month, and the armpit tumor is already growing back. I'm extremely upset, I can't even begin to tell you how I feel.. I don't know what else I could do. I can't afford to remove it again, I practically spent every penny I had last time. Not to mention I don't want to put her under again.
We are going to start her on bromo, hopefully saturday if my mom can drive me, if not then next week. Hopefully that will slow down the growing process. Pretty upset that it had to be a not so good update..

Was she spayed at the same time Jennifer? I cannot remember.
