Editing my post to basically change everything I said.

Can someone explain how a combo works better than using one antibiotic? I read something about it on the rat guide, but have been unable to find it again and would like a more thorough explanation.

Each antibiotic treats an illnesses differently. There are gram positive and gram negative bacteria. When you use a combo, you are covering more bases.

In addition to what Jo said, there are different types of antibiotics. Some are bactericidal which kills the bacteria and some are bacteriostatic which basically inhibit reproduction of the bacteria. In a combo, you could have one of both, one that stops growth and the other that kills, or 2 that kill.
