What is wrong with Megan's skin?!

I apologize for being so late with this update. We just discovered that my 8 month old ferret, Melina, has intestinal cancer and I've been trying to figure out how to help her.

Megan isn't any worse and may be a bit better. I say that mostly because it is hard to tell. Saturday night she got her tail caught in something. or dragged it across something sharp. We are not sure what exactly but we suspect she got under the chair leg. That's where Frank found her and realized she was hurt because he saw blood. It didn't bleed much, especially for a tail, but looked awful, like someone took something thin and scraped the skin off of it vertically. The scrape is about 2 inches long but not very deep. It's developed a good scab and I think she's going to be alright. I gave her Metacam that night and she was already on Chloramphenicol. I can't tell you how upset we were. We try so hard to keep them safe but accidents still happen. However, because of the injury, it's hard to tell if her tail is better or not. Hopefully, after that heals then she will continue to improve.

Oh Arlene, I'm so very sorry, poor Melina...

As for the tail scraping, that is so common and you may never figure out how it happens. It's does pain us to see something like that but it's like having your child fall and scrape their knee, it's part of life.

Not getting worse is a good thing! Go Megan go!!

Thanks so much Joanne. We are very sad about Melina. I'm going to try some herbal healing for her in addition to giving her Reiki healing every day.

Megan is something else! What a spunky little rat lady! Even at her age she has a real "ratattitude". She's very particular about things. For instance, if I try to give her something in a syringe she seems downright insulted, but if I put it in a small bowl and hold her then it's fine. I can't sit down, I have to stand up. Also, I can't just hold her, she has to have a blanket around her or she starts squirming like crazy. See what I mean? Never a dull moment here.

Megan is quite a little character. I love rats with attitude and hearing about their antics.
I'm sorry about Melina. Sending healing vibes to your sweetie.

Just another update. Megan's skin is looking better. It's not red anymore although her tail is scared badly. That's ok though. I still tell her how beautiful she is. She will be on the Chloramphenicol until her tail is healed which hopefully won't be too long.

She was out a bit yesterday afternoon and actually went over to the Wodent wheel and made it go around somehow three times. How she does that when both back legs don't work at all, I will never know. You have got to admire her spunk.
