It is a very hard choice. Kait kept telling me she dont want to just put her to sleep without trying. She wanted her to have a chance. I told her we would talk to the vet. He was ok with doing it so we are. I will be a wreck on friday.

I came home from work and I was almost floored when I saw who was out on the floor for out time. Little ludo. He is 19 months old now.l Not horrible old but I guess in my house that is 2030 years old because mine don't make it to 2. well my boys. His breathing seems better but his butt end is wobbly. It is kinda like his butt sways... not like typical hed but it is odd. As long as it doesnt hurt him which the way he trucks it on the floor I dont think it does but I cannot figure out what in the heck is causing it.

This is the same age it hit Templeton and loki both. I guess I will just pick one fight and right now it is making sure he is breathing ok. Tomorrow I will try to get a video maybe someone can tell me if it is hed or something worse.

Sorry, I'm new to the site and have no idea how to post my own well..post. So I came here..lol

One of my two females, Sappy, has had a lumpectomy and I got her back from the vet this afternoon. She seems to be alright, but I am new to pet surgery and I just want to know what I am to expect, and what to watch for. Hope this goes through! Thankyou!

on the index page is various options. You chose the right catagory and click on it. From there you go to new topic it is a gray button on the left side of the screen. Then you type as you wish. Most girls do very well with a lump removal. some will chew stitches out which is why we prefer to have them glued :) just keep her cage clean and give her tons of food the first day or two to make sure she eats enough. If she looks like she is in pain then you can see about getting metacam from your vet.

I made the decision to help ludo across the bridge. He began gasping again last and I have had enough seeing him like that. I wont keep him alive with a steroid shot and i wont keep watching his body deteriorate as fast as it was. I sit here with a heavy heart again but I loved him enough to stop it for him.

:hugs:

I for one understand the anguish of respiratory attacks... I am very touchy on that subject as I dread and fear it for myself. I totally understand and support your decision - this is a horrible way to live, and an even worst way of dying. Letting him go before he got to the point of no return was the right thing to do, in my opinion. But letting them go is never easy, especially when you have fought and cared for them long and hard.

Rest in peace Ludo

(Hugs!)
You and Ludo really tried hard to turn things around. I know what a heart-wrenching decision it is to have to let a friend go. Ludo was such a good rat and that makes everything all the more difficult. He will be dearly missed. I am so sorry, I was really hoping that things would improve for him.

It is. We got him through it a few weeks ago. We did the dex shot a week ago today and put him on azithromycin. He was doing amazing. yesterday I had a feeling he would be gasping soon so I tried to prevent it. it hit him last night and he did it almost all night long. I was up till two am with him. At 6am I woke up and heard the wind chimes out front, which I never hear then i heard him gasping. I knew that was it. I just couldnt do this anymore.

I wont not give them a fighting chance but I don't want to put anything through a horrible last few days when i aim for a good life for them. It has been hard with that family, mally has had two lumps, one in her uterus one on her which was removed friday. Ludo had on and off again bouts of pneumonia and at the end some really strange nerve thing that threw his back end off balance, loki and templeton had I have no idea but it was not pretty for either, Algernon is my sleeper lazy boy, but i dont recall him ever being sick.....but he is not my biggest fan LOL at least he dont bite me like mally does though.
I keep telling myself that I knew this would happen but man it does not seem like i have had them for so long. it just isnt long enough.

I was ok with losing them AFTER two year old but not before, i have been really blind-sided by them leaving me before.
