If you're not going to be able to stay with them and keep an eye on her, I would leave her in her own cage until you got home for the day. She'll be sleeping it all off anyhow, so just make sure she's got lots of cozy spots and a treat or 5. After you get home, you can pop her back into the cage for the rest of the night. You'll be closer to hand if anything happens or someone gets a little too pushy with her.

Well I took Raina to the vet this morning after waiting over 30 min or so for the cab to get unstuck from my drive way. That was a great way to start the day. Felt so bad leaving her there. She was cuddling to me pretty good 'cause she wasn't sure what was going on.
I'm going to call after my second class at 2 and see if they're done and hopefully pick her up. The other girls were wondering where she was too I think. They were all kinda waiting by the cage door for me to come back to put her in. I'm sure she'll be fine, just hard leaving her there.

OK I have Raina home and the doc said she did very good. She's still kinda out of it though. She's moving around but she's like almost stumbling a bit. That'd be normal right?
Her sides were sinking in very noticeably which mean she's in pain? I feel so bad for her. They gave her pain meds at the vet and gave me some that they want her to start tomorrow and have a follow up in 10 days. They said she was eating her blocks and some veggies. She just took a piece of broccoli and went in the blanket to eat. She's all snuggled up in there now which will keep her nice and warm.
Her sides don't look as sunken in now as when she was walking or trying to walk around. *takes in a deep breath* what a stressful ordeal, I can't imagin what she's going through.
Should I wait a little bit to let the other come out and see her?
I know I have a million and one questions lol I just want to do everything right for her.
The vets were really nice and gave her a blankie too which is cool.
I took a few pics of her.

Raina at the vets after the surgery. Nice little blanket that they gave her.

I'm so glad she made it through the surgery! She looks great. :D I have no experience here as I don't recall the post-op procedures with my rats/mice (go Dad for taking care of them!) but I just wanted to say go Raina. ;D

Give her a day before you allow the other rats near her, unless she looks up to it. It's quite normal, the stomach stretches, and yes, usually a sign of pain. But they will get through it, start the pain meds tomorrow.
She looks great btw.

ok. Thanks :)
The other girls are so curious lol I think they're missing her they keep looking out to see what she's doing. She's cuddling on my bed with the blanket right now. I'll put her in the cage and let the others come out in a bit so they have a turn to play.
She seems to be doing ok, she's coming and grabbing food and taking it with her. She's nice and warm too which is good.
I was wondering though in the future if I ever need to make a rat warm what do you use and where can you get it?

What's a rice warmer? I think the snuggle safe was what the vet had. Do you know where I can get those? Raina is nice and warm but I just wanted to get one to have for the future. I need to start making a rat med kit lol 'cause I really don't have one.
She's doing great today. Very active. Was quite interesting trying to get her meds though. I ended up having to carefully put her on her back on my lap and squirt the stuff in her mouth. She wouldn't take it mixed in anything and she'd wiggle away when I'd stand her up with her back against my chest. So the laying down thing seemed to work the best.
The girls were really happy to see her today. They sniffed her a bit but then left her alone and are all playing together nicely. So that's good to know 'cause I know she hated being by herself. My brave little girl.

A rice warmer is just a bag/sock filled with uncooked rice. You pop it in the microwave and the rice stays warm for a while. I know you can make one yourself, but I can't seem to find my links to the pages I know had instructions on 'chew deterrent' versions.... Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a better idea, heh.

Snuggle Safes are available at most pet stores. They're a plastic disc looking thing that you pop in the microwave and it stays warm for quite some time.

Always make sure that anything you use is not too hot and that the rat can get away from it. Especially sick rats can have difficulty moving away from the heat source and can overheat or get burned.

Raina seems to be doing quite a bit better. I was pretty worried there for a few days when she was bleeding but the wound looks like it's healing up. Still looks kinda gross but at least she's active. Thanks to all who helped me out. I hope I didn't annoy to many of you with me posting so much about it lol I just wanted to make sure my baby was ok.
