Toby's Sick (May 3 - update page 2)

So my poor boy Toby is sick ..took him to the vet yesterday he got Doxy + Baytril Combo for 15 days.

I really hope he gets better

He got wet sneezes, red dishcharge from his nose & weird breathing ..its a myco flare up ...from stress (I went away for a week)

Wish my boy a fast recovery!

UPDATE!

Toby finished his Doxy + Baytril combo on Weds, he was only on it for 15 days, I was unable to get another 15 days until Friday. He seemed to be doing better, but Thursday he was having large amounts of porph discharge around one of his eyes and his nose (but his breathing was fine). So now we have another 15 days worh of baytril and doxy. I really hope he get's better :sad3: :sad3: :sad3: :sad3:

Aww poor boy. If I were you, in 2 weeks, tell the vet the rat is doing better but not good enough and ask for more meds for at least another 2 weeks after.

Just an update!

It's been only 2 days since Toby has been on the Doxy/Baytril combo, he actually seems to be doing better, he has more life & has less porph and sneezing

Although 2 of his cage mates are starting to get porph now! ..I have an appt made for a general checkup tomorrow, so my vet will have a look at them then.

Update: Toby is doing good, less sneezes everyday, more energy and less porph. All his brothers are doing fine as well, no one has cought it, all went for a checkup last night and got a bill of perfect health

Could there be another reason for the porphyrin, like any other kind of stressful factor?

That's good he's back on meds. Sometimes it'll take up to a few months. I have some on meds for their lifetime.

 

Jorats: nope, he has a very stress free enviroment & nothing has changed. He eats fine, acts fine & breaths fine. Just got snezzes and Porph ..now he could have gotton bad breathing if we left it more han a day.

 

Just an update, Toby has been on Doxy + Baytril combo now for 23 days and is doing well, no sneezes, a lil porph, he as tons of energy and a big appite. My vet wants to see him at the 30 day mark to see how he is doing and to decide how much longer if need he should be on the meds. Any recommendations for how long I should keep him on this combo?

That's great. My vet now recommends up to 2 and 3 months on meds. And I have noticed that it works better for mine. After one month they were fine for a while but had to be back on meds in a month or so.
