When I play rat phone or get out the stethoscope poor Toby's breathing sounds like a small helicopter. Even after weeks and weeks of Baytril, he just improves a tiny bit and plateaus. He's still fully active and enjoying life with his harem and shirt time so I'm not *too* worried, but I'm still worried a bit. Am I possibly dealing with chronic bronchitis here? Do I need to try him on a baytril/doxy combo before coming to any conclusions? If this doesn't get all better, could he need antibiotics for the rest of his life? I just don't know what to do. :panic: I want my little shirt-monster jewelry thief as healthy as he can be for as long as possible. I'm going to the vet tomorrow morning to pick up meds and for advice... what should I ask for/about here?

It is possible that your little shirt-monster jewelry thief could have a chronic respiratory issue. Some rats do need meds for their entire lives but hey.... many humans do to so it isn't an issue. :cuddle:

(lol... little shirt monster jewelry thief? LMAO!!!!!! :laugh4: :bunnydance:  :rose: )

I would definitely add the doxy if there has been no improvements. My Sebbie is a chronic sufferer, all I do now is give him doxy, it clears up for a few weeks and he starts again and so I start up the doxy again. But he remains in good spirits, active, hungry and happy. Some respiratory illnesses can be managed, probably never cured but at least you keep the rat active and happy.
