It's called " Lets open up the cage door while Mom is sleeping and give her a heart attack"

I don' t know how they did it, all I know is when I went to bed, the door was closed, and when I woke up it was open. I asked my family no one went in my room while I was sleeping to play with them. The only logical explanations are A) we have a ghost or B) They are smart little pranksters.

The worst part was when I woke up, they were both curled up inside of their ice cream tub, which means I could not see them. I was freaking out thinking they were gone then I stood up and they both popped their heads out like " Ha ha made you look!"

Now before anyone asks, I don't have a CN or anything with big doors, my cage has a tiny ( grrrrrrr) little door with just a little clip on it to keep it closed...

you can kinda see it in this picture:

For now I have a binder clip on the door as added protection. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Are you 100 percent sure it was closed??
When it'ss closed, is it closed tight, ot is it loose?

Yeah, I'm sure it was closed.. I'm kinda paranoid about things like that I check about 5 or 6 times before I got o sleep haha. IT closed tight too : P I have no idea how it happened I'm just SO glad my girls were in their cage when I woke up.

I had that cage for a while. The first thing I did was snap off the stupid clip they have on it. Then I took a spring (about 3" at rest) with a heavy hook on it (it was previously used to hold a small Petcetera cage to its base) and attached it to the cage. Nobody ever got the door open. >D

I have a couple of those cages for pairs that we get at the rescue and almost all rats I put in them can get out of them, the door is really easy for them to figure out. I use binder clips or twist ties to keep the doors shut.

I have a mini padlock on mine :giggle:

I had a dwarf hamster (little savage) that used to bite ..so I had mini locks on her cage because people used to go in my room and try to pet her :redhot:

Ha ha a mini padlock, that's funny. I would do that but then, I open their cage to many times in a day haha, I will just stick to my binder clip.

I figure they just pushed on it and it popped open haha.

I've used that cage as a qt/rescue cage and never any problems... but hearing that so many people have freaks me out! Next rat I use it for will get locked up just in case.

I gotta say, Cinder, you did a better job decorating that cage than I ever did. I always found it hard to fill for some reason. Maybe I'm just spoiled decorating CNs. Great job!

Yeah, I must say, this cage is heck to decorate >: ( And clean for the matter.

But I did some reno and made my own shelves out of a play pen and I love it a lot more now. So much more room to run ( the shelves it came with were puny). And they like it better now too haha. Now lets just wait and see if I like it the next time I have to give it a scrub down haha.

I leave the key in ;)

For me it was easier then fiddling with a binder clip.... I don't have a good relationship with binder clips haha

But if any of them figure out how to turn that key.... :eeek:

Yep I have one of those cages used to have two...and the dang door is not great, used clips for a bit but them got new luggage with tiny luggage locks that you cannot use when travelling by air anyway so tiny luggage locks for me too, with the keys in...

Oh I see, ha ha key locks, I was thinking combo locks ( highschool mind lol)

Maybe if I ever get one of those I will use it haha ( hopefully by that time I will have a new cage)

Hahaha! XD
My rats when i was a little girl knew how to open their own door too! :D
They would go for midnight walks and once they got sleepy back into their cozy little home.

The boys i have now live in something labeled as a ferret cage at the pet store. It's the only big cage i found with a big door and well the way it closes is something i've never seen on any other.
