I opened the boys cage today and was petting them. I hear this odd noise, look over to Elliot and he's wagging his tail! I look him over, confused, to make sure he wasn't hurt anywhere and picked him up. He kept wagging! He shoved his head behind my ear and his little tail just kept going.

Is this a normal thing? Was he excited? I looked it up, but kept getting mixed reviews on the subject!

I got this from 2 rats, both for opposite reasons : Pollux was overstressed and would wag his tail after running away to hide; my Lili, on the other hand, would be very relaxed, happily being pet in our arms and wagging her tail to show her contempt...

I guess all you can do is wait and see if he does it again, and try to figure out what triggered the tail wagging then. But from what I'm reading, you were enjoying some quality time with them when it happened, so I would opt for Lili's behavior and say that he most probably was a very relaxed and happy camper! :cheeky:

Lucky you! I miss that...

My ferrets used to wag their tails all the time when they were playing. I'm not sure about rats but I would think if he seemed happy, that it was a good thing.

Teddy wagged his tail, not as much anymore, but for him it was because he's hormonal and would do it when he was annoyed and wanted someone to stop doing something.

From what i found its either from excitement or anxiety/tension. Teddy was the anxiety/tension side. Your guys seems to be doing it in a more happy way :).
