Tail claw??

I'll post pics tomorrow, but for now I just wanted to post about it.

I was looking at Nautilus and suddenly I noticed that he appears to have a claw growing out of the end of his tail. I poked at it a little and he didn't seem to feel anything. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It's so weird! I don't think it's an issue but I just was wondering if he's the only claw-tailed rat! :?

I have seen weird spurs and "claws" growing out of a badly bred rescue's tail before. I'll wait to see your pics before I comment. You might want to consider your vet removing them as they can get caught on things.

When a rat gets degloved it can leave the tip of the bone exposed. I am curious to see these pictures though. I am picturing a scorpions tail LOL

Yes I wondered if maybe it was just a degloved tip as well.

never heard of a claw growing on a tail, unless this is a mutation or something going on with the tail? Ya im curious on those pics too hehe

I have seen a little growth growing out of the tail, that looked similar to a claw...it grows out the side.

He's never been degloved as far as I know! I promise I'll post a pic soon! I don't think it needs to be removed as it's on the very tip so it can't really get snagged. It's a tad smaller than a regular claw too. And he is the definition of badly bred--to put it in perspective, my other rat from the same place comes from TWO hairless parents. :wallbang: And Nautilus was in a tank with a bunch of other 5 week olds of both sexes! I was feeling lucky that I was going for males not females this time. Most of the other stores around here just keep males now.
