So about three weeks ago, Matilda got a upper respiratory infection and the vet gave me baytril and doxy for it. The baytril was to be given to her for two weeks, and she finished that about a week ago(she's still on doxy until Tuesday). However, I noticed yesterday that her symptoms are returning. She's a bit sneezy again, and she did this hiccuping-squeak noise a few times(it looked like loud hiccups, she did it before, too). The baytril expires 02/29/12. I still have some left over- can I go back to giving that to her, and keep giving the doxy., too? Will I be risking anything that way?

If she was mine I would start her back on it. My vet always has them on for at least 6 weeks.
On baytril+doxy., or just one? Originally she gets them twice a day each, should I give it twice a day, or once? If I run out of one before the other, should I continue just one? Sorry for all these questions, mamarat. Thanks for replying.

Give both meds twice a day and call your vet for a refill. I know I can do that here, not sure if you can? I know some vets like to see the rat before prescribing but since it's still Matilda he might. Good luck with your sweetie.

When I get them the first time, the vet said she can write me a refill without an apointment if it doesn't stop. I'll do that, once I finish what I have left over. Thank you.

How long should I keep giving her both?

Give her meds until a couple of weeks after her symptoms disappear. I have a few here who are on meds their whole lives.
Yeah, I read that some rats have to be on meds forever. Must suck, having to keep buying all the meds.

Also, my new rat is showing the same exact symptoms only a tad more(nothing else, though. No lethargy, discharge, wheezing, etc.). Should I try giving her some of these meds too, or should i wait and see if it isn't just new-home sneeze and take her to a vet if it keeps up?

If there are no other symptoms I would wait another couple of days then. Just keep an eye on her.
Yeah, I think it's actually going down a bit. Thank you, mamarat!
