Hope Basils ears get sorted out soon!

Dont know what everyone else thinks.. but Revolution (puppy + kitten) is the best and fastest way to treat lice/mites/worms in my opinon (including heart worm + ring worm). Its just one application, a drop behind their head or on their shoulder blades. Simple :) and only costs $15 + tax per tube here which treats approx 5 adults or 3 adults 3 babies.

Revolution does not treat internal parasites on rats, it simply treats lice / mites. Ivermectin is more broad spectrum when used on rats and treats, lice/mite and internal parasites. I can not find any reference that revolution kills ringworm. Ringworm is a fungus not an actual worm, and needs an anti-fungal medication.

(Sorry to be digging up such an old thread)

We're still doing battle with the ears :( They aren't 'angry red' andymore, just a normal pink. They are still puffy and seem to be getting progressively less swollen. At this point the vets think it's an allergic reaction to something that is in the house. We can't for the life of us think of what it is. We've replaced all the fleece, laundry soap, and well, the list goes on and on. The vet doesn't want to keep giving him meds if they aren't going to work. He is still the same bright and perky ratty with no other problems other than puffy ears. My vet said he's still going to look into the problem and will let me know if anything comes up.
I was thinking about calling your vet Jorats (Dr. Munn?) and get their opinion... do you think they would mind?

Would it be a possibility that thicker ears are normal for him?

Dr. Munn is in Toronto, my vet is Dr. Vannevel. She'll consult with a vet but not a patient. I can pm you her email address and your vet could contact her?

Revoluton does treat internal parasites (such as intestional worms), but it is not the recommended medication if that is what you are treating for
Other medications are recommended depending upon the specific internal parasite that you are dealing with.

Glad that Basil is doing better.
Hope that he is soon well.

Thats neat SQ, I googled away and was unable to find any reference to revolution treating worms in rats, I ended up going off this study as it was the most official thing I could find. Do you have any links to literature about it?

Revolution *may* treat roundworms in rats, as it is designed to treat roundworms in cats and dogs but I am still not able to find a reference to it doing so, and no references to it being able to treat the other kinds of worms rats get.

His ears were this thick prior to this. My vet has suggested that scar tissue may have made them appear thicker. While we hadn't seen him scratching them, but that doesn't mean he wasn't. They have definitely made an improvement since I first posted. They are now a normal colour, however they are still puffy looking. He's holding them higher on his head where they originally were as well.
