I've just never given Ibuprofen so I don't know the "procedure" with it. I mean...do I keep giving it until the swelling goes away or only for a couple days?

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc) is an NSAID - Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug. It is a painkiller, it reduces fever, and it reduces inflammation. It works well on traumatic things like sprains because it's reducing pain and inflammation. This is opposed to a drug like acetaminophen (Tylenol) which will not have any effect on inflammation, only the pain. Ibuprofen should only be taken for a few days at a time. It is not meant for long-term use, and is hard on the stomach.

Reggie whacked his foot up nice and good a week or two ago. I gave him a little bit of medicam for two days and it was back to normal. I took out his levels and hung the hammock nice and slow for him, but I still caught him chasing Tom up to the top of the cage. GRRRR. So much for trying to have him stay still.

Sprains seem to take a long time to get over. When I first put Watermelon in the CN's, she would sprain one limb after another. Took a long time before she became a pro climber. I never gave her anything and she recovered just fine.
