Sunny is almost 3 yrs and has CHF.

Gave Sunny her meds and everyone some peas.
I think she has something stuck in her throat.
Her whole body jerks and she lifts her head and opens her mouth wide.
She is breathing noisily through her mouth.
and now acts as if she is gasping.
She is breathing but don't think she is getting enough oxygen.
To my knowlege, as long as she is breathing, I do nothing.
And call a vet if not better within 4 hours.

If you think ths is something else, please let me know.
Otherwise, you can pray ....

aww. Does sound like choking.. what you discribe sounds just like when my boy choked.. it took him a while to pass whatever he was fighting... sounds like either that or gasping from a resparitory infection?

I have waited up to 8 hours for one choke to pass...she was very quiet at the end, so it wasn't the middle of a horrible episode, but the next morning she was bright-eyed and I was a gaunt hollow shell from staying up and worrying over her.

How is Sunny now?

Fingers crossed for Sunny. This is so scary. Vet told me the "oldies" can do that to try and breathe, although it looks like choking. It happened with my Russo and Pussy Willow. They were both 33 months and not on meds for anything.

Thanks everyone

Sunny wasn't choking.
After checking a few things, my vet discovered that her porphrin was full of bacteria.
Sunny has a secondary infection that is causing difficulty breathing in upper respir.
Sunny was given an injection of antibiotics and after returning home I was able to get some/most of her clavamox and her 4 heart meds into her over a 1.5 to 2 hr period, one drop at a time. It was very streesful for Sunny so I left her alone after that.

Just checked and Sunny is about the same .... which is good news .
... hopefully the antibiotics will work fast and she will show some inprovement.
Will soon go and give her the meds orally again ... hope it goes a bit faster tonight.

Vet recheck today .... I thought it might be time given the weekend and the fact that Sunny doesn't seem any better yet.
My vet didn't feel it was time to have Sunny pts.
Her lungs sound fine .....
So she is now on a decongestant.
This is risky given her age, her heart condition and the heart meds she is on ...
But not much else we can do to buy time and help her breath a bit easier while waiting for the antibiotics to work.

Another vet check scheduled for Monday.
