So tonight I'm cleaning the cage, lah-dee-dah, all fine. Then I look up. And all hell breaks loose. My entire ceiling is covered in tiny spiders. And I'm not exaggerating -- They are EVERYWHERE on my ceiling. I KNOW they are getting in through my window(which means the rest of the summer I have to suffer with it closed) even though I taped the crap out of it.

What the heck can I do to get rid of these spiders without harming the rats? This is the first day of my week vacation and of all things I cannot believe I have what looks like 200-300 tiny spiders on my ceiling. I hate spiders, I cannot sleep until they are gone. I tried to swiffer my ceiling, and all that did was make them hang and I had to hide outside the room until they rose back up. And to top it all off, I'm supposed to paint my room this week and having all these spider carcases in the paint is CREEPY.

I was reading the raid label and that says to spray and close the room/doors/remove pets etc for a certain amount of time then air it out and after you air out the room the animals can go back in after like an hour. Is this actually safe for rats? I was planning on putting them in the spare bedroom while I paint, but I don't know how long painting is actually gonna take and I'm already gonna feel awful putting them in the quiet boring spare room.

ANy ideas would be great. D:

Vacuum them up, use the upholstery attachment if needed. (Won't prevent new ones, but at least it will get rid of the ones you have.)

So I guess what I recently read it true,. you are never more than 3 feet from a spider at any given time. I concur not a fan of spiders. Good luck on getting rid of them.

OMG this is like a night mare I had not that long ago!! I would seriously just move, and not come back LOL!! I always have my trusty can of spider blaster, and cannot even handle one spider, let alone that many, so all I can say is good luck!!

How about vacuuming them and then wash the ceiling and then apply a film of Raid along the window where they are coming in? You could put the rats into the spare room for a few days. They wont care.

I have a horror of spiders myself, so just the thought makes me want to put on a body suit!

My spider-loving friends would telle to empty the vacuum bag outdoors so that the spiders would survive. That would be OK.

Please catch them and put them outdoors in an area that is safe for them.
If you do vacumn them up, as Godmother said, please empty the bag outdoor in an area that is safe for them.
They are probably babies and would likely prefer to be outdoors.

btw, if you do live with a spider, it helps to name them .... and they do keep the number of bugs down.

Naming always helps! Remember, spiders are our friends.

However, it does sound like a problem, especially since you have to paint. It sounds very much like there was an egg sac, either in your room, or perhaps in/around your window. It would be impossible to catch them all with anything other than the vaccuum, but please please do empty the bag outside, as SQ said.

Naming over 100 spiders is so intimidating LOL.

I somehow managed to sleep last night and when I woke up they were all gone. I have no idea where they've gone(obviously), and I will hope they went to the basement where my dad sleeps(hahaha sucker). If they only come out at night I can't vacuum them, cause people in the house are sleeping... My grandpa doesnt seem to understand that they are coming in through the window, so I guess I'm gonna figure this out somehow.

I agree. It sounds like a bunch of babies just hatched. So don't get too worked up about there always being a crazy amount. You just found them before they could all run off and make a home somewhere else...

That's so weird becuase I took a duster in all the cobwebs and cacoons around the nooks and crannies of my room in preparation to paint... I guess it must have been outside? Or maybe in my closet or up in the light fixture... strange. They can go wherever they want, just dont come back into my room unless rent is paid. LOL
