I have noticed Sookie has been losing weight rapidly last week and brought her in for a vet check. the vet prescribed baytril and doxy and she has been on that for 4 days now. It is not working though she has not lost any weight recently but she has not gained the weight back she lost either. her breathing is still labored and she always wants on my couch and she just sleeps their it seems like she doesn't want to be with any of her rat friends.
other than these few changes in her she still is eating, drinking and snatching treats when she can.
Here is a video of her today sorry for poor lighting.

should I start her on enalpril? and go in for an x-ray?

You might want to try her on zithro + baytril

or else enalpril. IF the enalpril helps then atenolol is added, lasix is given as needed, an xray is done and if the heart is enlarged digoxin is added.

I couldn't see the video, but I hope she is soon feeling better

4 days is not really long enough to see a real improvement but it's also the time when you'd might want to consider switching because waiting longer could be detrimental. I would personally try zithro with the Baytril.

yeah I figured 4 days isn't long enough. Thanks I will get into contact with my vet and see if they have zithro. Its her breathing that worries me it's really labored. I will try Zithro and get an x-ray of her.

I would get an xray for sure ..thats how oscar started out ..turned out her had a chest tumor! goodluck.

Thought I would update everyone Sookie is responding well to enalpril I have an appt set up for friday to get an x-ray and get her on atenolol. My question is if should I still add lasix or is that just if their is fluids in her chest?
