I have rats, and one of them a 6 month old girl named Ingrid. Today I came home to Ingrid acting weaker than normal, and she had quite a bit of red gunk coming from her nose and eyes. A few hours later she started producing cloudy red discharge that almost looks like birth fluid. We called the vet and will be having her checked out in the morning. She's very stumbly and disoriented, still producing reddish discharge, and hasn't eaten all day. Ingrid is a very calm and relaxed rat usually, so it isn't out of character for her to lay down or sit by herself rather than play with her sisters, but today she has seemed very weak and confused. Does anyone know anything that could help me out?

Its good you’re going to the vet! The lack of appetite and lethargy is a bad sign. The red discharge isn’t blood, it’s sort of like “tears” your rat is stressed by something. The discharge isn't something to get super upset over unless it’s frequent and excessive (even though it looks bad) but coupled with the other symptoms you should definitely see the vet.

Is the red fluid coming from her vagina and looks like blood? Or is it in her urine and looks more like pink-stained pee? First could be a myco genital infection, or a uterine infection, etc. The latter is more likely to be a UTI (urinary tract infection). Both will need antibiotics.
