Happy to report that Basil's still chugging along like the handsome old manrat he is. He's getting very grumpy at me about the meds, though...he was taking them like a champ for a long time, but I think he realized they'd be a daily thing and he's not so cool with that a month+ later LOL.

But, anyway. Basil's got CHF. I've moved everything that's even remotely important down to the bottom level of the cage, he's got nest boxes, litter pan, low hammock, water bottle, food, etc. all within very easy reach.

He still finds it necessary to climb ALL THE WAY to the top of the cage so that he can glare down imperiously upon all lesser creatures (rats, cats, people...)

Should I make him move into a smaller "retirement" cage with his best buddy Amadeus so he doesn't over-exert himself?
Or just let him carry on doing whatever he feels good doing?

I am not sure about that I know I saw Jo's rat Chief I believe and that rat could truck it, I dont think he slowed down much during the intro's i saw.

I would like to know that is why I am going to watch this thread.

Personally, I'd let him live life to the fullest. Unless of course if he could hurt himself by climbing up and by that I mean if he would fall off the shelf.

His balance seems pretty excellent. He falls less often than the youngsters who seem insistent on JUMPING off the levels instead of using ramps etc.

Maybe I should add in some more hammocks as cushions in case he does fall....
