RTR Connor is Not Feeling Well.. RIP

Poor Connor, a much older (or old before his time) RTR boy. Shy and retiring, but understandably since he lives with Waco. :roll:

He got a URI 1.5 weeks ago and has been on baytril and doxy. He seemed to be slowly improving but sadly he regressed today and is cold, and cannot get much air into his lungs. These poor RTR rats! :sad3: I gave him an injection of dex this morning as this often opens up the lungs to give them a reprieve. If he doesn't respond I will take him to Dr. Munn tomorrow morning to be pts. This group of rats are breaking my heart. The healthy ones were adopted out, leaving behind the genetically hormonally aggressive ones, the sick ones, and the ones who never get better. I think its going to be a sad year for me and these lovely boys who deserved so much more. :sad-p:

Poor Connor. It is so hard to see a litter of BYB rats suffer like that. Kisses and banana mash to him.

Eli is a very sensitive rat and he even shared his breakfast with Connor, after some gentle sniffing of each other.

I want to know how many times I can fall in love with a rat over and over?

Eli started following Connor and they were sniffing at each other on the bed. I saw Eli trying to crawl on top of him, and then I saw him lick off some of the Ensure. Connor wandered to just under the covers and Eli followed him with me watching very very closely for stress on either of their parts.

It looks like a feeble dominance pin doesn't it?

But then you look at Connors face, and...

These 2 haven't seen each other since June 5th when the groups were separated. :shock:

Connor was feeling a bit better last night and was wandering around happily. When I got home he woke up and then wandered to the end table wit the bowl, sniffed it and looked up at me. He was telling me he wanted more of that yummy pink stuff LOLOL...He got it of course He's still not completely sure of Eli's intentions as Waco would cuddles with him then attack him and chase him...so he's waiting for Eli to snap.

Aw! It almost looks like Connor is asking Eli if it's okay if he snuggles on top of him - he's got bright eyes at least, which seems good.

So I decided to shift Waco into his own blue bottom (Rat Resort) and fixed up the guineapig cage for Connor and Eli...praying they would be okay in a confined space. Its not as big as they need but since they are out every night, it works well for them. I cannot put a lot of things in it as Eli gets freaked out when he's bumping into things and I have to re-create the same thing (more or less) so Eli doesn't stress.

Sleepy corner...or so I thought.

Eli gets really panicky for awhile, I had to put my hand through the bars and he hugged onto it. He was almost hyperventilating, making short nervous huffs.

Then he relaxed and I walked away. Checked on him 5 mins later and he was grooming beside Connor, and then he started exploring.

Connor soon found the hammock

and Eli checked out his Cozygloo

About 15 mins later I look over and see this. :heart: :heart:

Eli was leaning on Connor and Connor was very relaxed...I melted, and tears almost came to my eyes. Eli stayed up there for hours.
The only glitch in the program is now that Eli is happier, he needs me less and doesn't sleep with me so much. But that's just fine with me. He has a friend. :thumbup:
