Hi all, I have two 7 week old girls and one 8 month old girl. All three have URIs which I have been treating them for, for the last week. However, yesterday I noticed that they had symptoms of ringtail. The babies have a faint annular band and some minor tail constrictions, no discoloration. My older girl has only a couple tail constrictions, no annular band or discoloration. There is no severe pinching or swelling, and gangrene has not set in. I think I caught it very very early on judging by my research, and I think they should be able to make a full recovery if I do things right. I know part of it is the changing temps and that my landlords are the worst and won't turn off the heat (I yelled at them and got them to turn it down a little) but I'm sure a little bit of dehydration from antibiotics-induced diarrhea doesn't help either.
So far I have put a humidifier by their cage (which is in hallway nook that protects from drafts), and stopped trying to cool the apartment with an A/C (which creates a cool air draft). I have two radiators in my apartment -- in the bathroom and kitchen. I have closed the door to my bathroom, and opened the window in my kitchen to let that hot air out. I have successfully made my apartment a consistent 72-73 degrees F and humidity hovering around 50% though I'm trying to get it up a bit higher. I also am applying olive oil 2x daily. However, I have ordered pure lanolin (for moisture -- I've read in some university studies that it is a good treatment) and calendula/coconut oil to stimulate blood flow. I have also increased their intake of omega 3 fatty acids with avocado and olive oil (since they are licking it off their tails). I have also given them a big, stable bowl of water, with occasional frozen peas to splash around in to cool off if they need to.
However, I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas about how to handle/treat ringtail? Or if anyone has any success stories to make me feel better about this and that they will bounce back?
