Is this typical of hematomas? I never seen this before, it just looks good other than the hole lol . Should i try to flush it since it is open?

:sad3: :sad3: :sad3:

That hole incision looks so similar to what Dax had after his first operation...only difference is unlike your boy, his was much bigger...and it smelled awful...and...and he was urinating out of it... :cry4:

Gah sorry, just neutering makes me so nervous now, I can't even bring myself to think of neutering my boys despite they might need it if they dont' settle down in a few months. I don't understand how it can go wrong if vets have done it before, or just if the rats don't do well under surgerical stress or something? Is it really that difficult for vets to spay/neuter rats? Or is one or the other easier to do?

What makes me nervous is being bitten by a mean boy or watching them fight just because they have testicle. You will have to work through that fear. That was a freak accident not typical.we have had over 30 surgeries and only a few mishaps. Seeing him settle down will be worth the stress of the surgery and the healing. Just look at Fabians thread.

Well I can only wish I lived near you Hopefloats :( I wouldn't worry as much with ya'lls ratings in neuters.

None of my boys bite me, they are still young and going through pecking phases, nothing serious has happened other then pinning and rough grooming and alot of squeaking. There's been a bit of biting recently with some blood but not too serious. The cuts heated fast, if im nervous of any of their activities its that Gyro and Nes are battling for alpha and they like maybe once a day will get puffy, and hip hit each other. Gizmo of the three and current alpha, for some reason never gets puffy ever! He does alot of the tackling and rough grooming thats for sure and he'll box if he's forced to. I find it odd he never puffs up though.

Well I wouldnt go that far. Remember i had a girl magically become pregnant after my boys testicles grew back. I went through hell and back to correct that problem, about $1700.00 later. I had one boy bleed, one boy not survive. We get abscess, attitudes and so on. It is different with each neuter so you have to try and cross your finger it works out for the best. Small rodent neuters are different than other larger animals they have an opening in the inguinal wall which is what causes the problems in most neuters. Closing it can cause lumps from the internal sutures leaving it open can cause hernia which can be painful. Sometimes you have to do a neuter and hope for the best.

That's very true and I agree, but I'm hoping to give it another 2 more months and see if they settle, if not...then...ya i may have no choice :(
