I got a new ratty boy to add to my mix and he definitely has the symptoms of an early stage of respiratory infection. He sneezes a lot and also chirps, both of which I know are signs of these infections.
SO, I now have 100mg tablets of Doxycyline and am curious as to how much I should be giving him? He has an 8oz waterbottle and weighs probably a pound (SUPER rough estimate). Any help would be great! Thanks!

Never mix the meds in their water bottle.

The dose for doxycycline is 5mg/kg. You really should weigh him, but IF he weighed a pound his dose would be about 2.5mg. If you put one tablet in 4ml of water (or syrup) it would be 25mg/ml, so the dose would be .1 to get 2.5mg.

If you don't see improvement within a few days you will probably want to try adding something to the doxycyline.

I'm not even sure how we should be giving him the meds. Can you give me a step-by-step, easy to understand process? I don't know how to feed it to him, how to measure 2.5 from the 10mg, etc. Sorry, I am very new at this!

You will need to crush the pill into a fine powder, then add 1ml of water to it. Once it's all mixed you can draw up the right amount using a syringe.
