Bluey just had 2 masses removed on under the arm and another by her behind 11am Wednesday.

She is on Metacam. She's ate little. She'll be 2 in Nov. I had to decide on surgery as she was bleeding from her girl bits.
I got her on my lap quiet. I always wished she would sit still but now I wish she will run around.

I just need share.

Give her some time to recover, and she might surprise you and be back to her old self in no time.
I've had a few rats go through surgery later in life and they were fine and gave me quite a few more months of love.
It's hard but hang in there... she needs you.

The anesthesia often makes them groggy and well "not-them". It can take a day or so to completely clear their system and they start acting more like themselves.

Did you have her spayed for the bleeding as well?

The mass removal took to long so the vets did not spay her. She has a "body cast". Keeps her from reaching her sites.
Poor "wrap" rat. I want to take it off, she is breathing hard. Maybe the pain killer is not strong enough?

Worried.

Oh dear, the body wrap can freak them out but really they do need it. Maggie ripped her stitches out and needed a body cast but boy did it piss her off. She'd look fine without it but with it on you had to wonder if she was in pain. Just check to be sure it isn't too tight. You should be able to reach a finger in either end, if not you might need to loosen it a bit. There is a trick to doing it so there is enough room to breath without enough room to slip out.

OK so I am confused. Is she still bleeding from her bits? If so this is dangerous.

As for the body cast, its possibly doing her more harm than good. Remove it and see if she picks...it can immobilize them with pressure which is very frightening to a prey animal...they feel they cannot get away.

Thanks for your replies.

Bluey finally started eating again. I went and got strong pain meds and I think that helped.

I resisted taking her bandage off. She manages to clean her face and hold the food.

Almost back to normal...

Bluey had to have staples, the surgical glue was no match for her rat grooming instinct. I did remove her body cast as I was feeling sorry for her. The vet put on a new one and I will leave it on for a week. She can move and wash her face but not reach her groin area.
She was Tramadol for pain. Now Bluey is running around like normal, even leaping on to her wooden house. She just sports a light blue 'jacket' on :joy:

Our rat Onyx recently had some abscess issues around his penis. In order for him to not reach the area my vet actually made a head-cone for him. They cut the arc shape out of some x-ray film and added some tape for comfort around the neck then taped it together. It works really well. He hates it, but it keeps him from getting to the area.

Awww... He's a cutie. I wonder how long he'll keep that on. lol
You might have to hold his food for him when he eats. Or if you can take it off for when he's hungry might be best.

He's had it on for over two weeks now. We've been hand feeding him morning and night, but he can also munch on lab blocks in his cage if he pushes it over to something for support. We wipe the morning porphyrin off his nose for him and give him some face scritches (which he LOVES). We take it off periodically to give him a break, let him groom himself, generally relax. It's been working great though! He might tell you otherwise.
