She was fine yesterday when I had her and Monkey out on the couch, but she has lost a lot of the mobility in her hind end, so must've caught her foot and sprained it badly. I gave her a big dose of metacam and hopefully we can bring down that swelling. I also gave her some nice watery baby cereal of which she ate some.

Poor stoic little buggers!

Wow, that's a nasty sprain. Watermelon did that to her front foot and it took about a week for her to walk normal. Now she is lifting her hind leg. Are sprains common in rats? I have never had one do this before Watermelon. How long will it take for Tonka to heal from an injury like that? Poor little thing.

a mild sprain can be a day or 2...this one could be up to a week. IF its a break, but I don't see that horrible blackish purple bruising it can take 1-2 weeks.

She's bright-eyed but I guess she'll be living on the bottom level and I had better set it up for her.

Thanks....good info to know but I wonder why it takes Watermelon so long. Hers' was nowhere as bad as this!

My Rodeo had that a few weeks back before doing the intros, he had a thing about not using the ramp. But he also had that dark black colour, and the skin broke and was all that liquid seeping out. After about a week he was fine again.
Metacam helped a great deal.

Aww poor Tonka!! Shiloh had the same thing happen, I had no idea what had happened so I brought her to the vet and he gave her some ibuprofen and said she must have fallen or something. She was walking almost immediately, by the next day. Get better soon Tonka!
