Where to begin. She's 3 years and 3 months old and still WANTS to be very active, but has hurt her food badly making her moving around difficult. Personally I think her foot is broken, because that's just how it looks, but she CAN still put weight on it and she is clearly not in pain because of it - no red stains around the eyes etc. It just means she can only walk slowly and unsteadily. This means we've had to take the ladders out of her cage because she will fall down them, so she's got one level to herself. She's not enjoying her out time, much, either, because she's become so immobile.

I'm not allowed to get her a buddy, and to be honest, depressing though it sounds, I think she'd be equally as glum with a cage mate that isn't just PERFECT for her because of the state she's in.

Another tumour has come up as well, would you believe! last time, we got one removed, even though she was old, because she was still very active and healthy, it seems like it would all be too stressful for her now. Same with the leg operation, especially as she can still put weight on it anyway.

I'm giving her metacam but wish there was more I could do :- ( I just wanted to rant because it seems like such an unfortunate way for her to spend the rest of her years, she's been so lucky up until now.

What would you all do? how should I keep her entertained when she can't move around properly??

I had that happen, an old lady rat injured her foot or leg...and OMG it was pathetic. But in time it healed and she was fine. Just keep up on the metacam for a few days and then let it heal.

I'm sure at her age she must be doing a lot of sleeping and lazing around. Many rats do this when they reach 2+. I'm sure at her age, she probably wouldn't want a buddy... might irritate them more than anything else.
Sounds like you are doing everything she needs for her handicap.
