Spraying her at this age wouldn't have been a choice she was two and a half, I read that these surgeries are very hard on a older rat. These were my first rats and I didn't known such surgeries existed for them when I got them. Only when she got her mammary tumor and I got it removed I did some research on it to find out you can actually spray your rats and it will lower the chances of mammary tumors. I removed the mammary tumor thinking it would be a while before growing back, but she ended up with uterine cancer which is worst.... For sure next time I get rats I will getting them fixed because it's truly a heart break when this comes around, I was unexperienced and I kind of blamed myself for not knowing this sooner about spraying a rat, I even did animal sciences and they don't even ellaborate on this type of surgery. When my veterinarian removed the tumor he could have sprayed her but I just don't know why he didn't even mention it I guess, since as I stated it was only after she had surgery I figured out you can spray them....
GAAAH, I knew I was losing her, she wasn't acting normal today....

Since you are posting so much in past tense, does this mean she is no longer with you? :sad3:

I'm really sorry for your loss Sabby. I really do think it's time you find another vet, one who is current with rat health. Spaying and tumour removals are a common occurrence now.

Hmm interesting. My vet has always called it spaying for females, never neutering.

I guess that's why the vet is a vet and not an English Professor. :laugh4:

(sorry.... I'm having one of my smart@$$ days)

(Dude.... someone in the office is eating popcorn....)

So sorry to hear you lost your girl...
She did live a nice long life though - Of my eight rats I have lost so far, not one has made it to 2 1/2 years old. So don't beat yourself up about it. You loved her and took care of her and I'm sure she knew it.

I'm sure she knew I loved her yeah, she would always come to cuddle with me.
Thanks for your support everyone.
