Pearl with PT - We helped her pass

We are back from the vets. She said it could be many things wrong, but she did notice her left eye was slower to respond, she said that she is depressed and obviously not feeling well. Her temp is low as well. She said that the prognosis wasn't good which I already knew but after I asked her about giving meds a shot she agreed. Unfortunately she doesn't give out Dex however she did give Pearl a shot of Dex (which Pearl did NOT like at all and made a big fuss). Sheila said that if it didn't improve her at all then it was best to have her PTS. She said we could see a change in as little as 24 hours, if the shot DOES improve Pearl then she will give me a RX for Pred to give to her. She also gave me baytril to give her as well. So we will see how she does, I hope for improvement even for a little while however if there is nothing, we will let her go.

I have to go to work so I can't explain more about the things she did to test her but if anyone is interested I will let you know. I did ask how much it would cost for euth. she said $20. She said she can give her the gas, then she gives a shot to make them dozy then another shot for the PTS stuff. I don't know the terms and whatnot.

Last night she seemed to imrove a little. She was able to hold a cheerio for a short while. She was also determined to eat it. She got chocolate ensure, a crossient (rattie one) and a cheerio. By the time I gave her baytril she was full. Light seemed to come into her eyes as well. I'm waiting for Wayne to get up so we can take her out together to give her meds.

Call that vet and get that Pred prescription If you are able, see if they will give her another shot of dex before starting the oral pred. The dex is better and faster especially in the crucial beginning :joy:

The script is ready, I called the vet to see if she will give us another shot, just waiting to hear back.

YAY, the vet said another shot of dex would be a good idea. We are going back at 3pm. :joy:

Most vets won't send home injectable meds.

Yes it was because it was injectible. To be quite honest, I would be scared to give it to her. We did get another dex shot and Pearl didn't make a peep for this one. I was glad to take Pearl back so the vet could see her improvement and Sheila was very pleased. I will be picking up the Pred tonight.

I have a question though. With the pred since I got a dex shot today should I wait until tomorrow to start the Pred. The dosage is 1ml pills, 1/4 pill twice a day for 5 days (call the vet to update at that point) then down to 1/4 pill once a day for rest of it.

Want me to work out something a bit easier with the solution of strawberry quik and water?
