It is a good one, but its usually injectable, and it can cause Pica behaviour in rats which would just add to Jo's, Mamarat's and little Luna's troubles.

Luna saw the vet yesterday and much to our disappointment, she's got full blown PT. There are more symptoms, clubbing, massive porphyrin, biting... My vet was very upset and kicks herself for not having noticed the signs before hand which now that mamarat thinks back, she definitely had small signs of starting it. My vet is pretty sure that anesthetics must have kicked it into faster rate of growth. We can't give her pred, it will do too much harm to her one remaining kidney. Luna will take dex for the next two days, if we see she comes back a little, we will start her on the Bromo. My vet is unsure what bromo can do to just the one kidney so has left it up to us if we want to try it on Luna or not. She also doesn't think that bromo is the cause of vaginal bleeding. She said that in people though, the bromo has made females change their cycle and cause them to menstruate but not sure if it would do that in rats but it wouldn't be a bad thing if it did, just an inconvenience.

I'm so sorry. Until I read this thread I didn't know that anesthesia could kick start PT... that's exactly what happened with Sophie's sister Grace. I hope you can get her stable enough to try the Bromo. Poor baby.

I started the Dex yesterday and I see a small improvement. I'll be starting the Bromo tomorrow. Fingers crossed for my girl.

I love Dexamethasone for relieving the symptoms like that :heart: Now start her on the bromo and see if you can extend her time with you :thumbup:

Update on Luna. She is being weaned off the Dex and taking her Bromo every day. She is also back in the cage with her buddies. Luna had stopped eating and was getting depressed. Since being back in the cage she eats everything she did before the operation and is a happy girl. She also needs to gain back her weight.
