Mishka seemed her usually self this morning when she was out.

She is likely just over 24 months.

Today when I got home with the kids, she didn't come out of the cage.

We took her out and she is not moving much and is cool to the touch.

Didn't try her favourite rice puff treat.

Munn will see her at 8:45, tomorrow, he made an earlier appt for us as he didn't have anything until the end of the day that I can't make.

We put her on a heating pad for awhile. She ate some ground oatmeal cooked with milk from a spoon. Pablum was recommendeded but I don't have any right now.

What could this be?

Anything else I can do for her?

For heart failure the limbs are usually blueish - definitely cool to the touch though.

Is she able to move at all, or does she favor one side or another? When she eats, does she eat with both paws?

Unfortunately, it may just be her time.. hopefully that's not the case though, just keep her fed, and hydrated, and make sure she's warm.. keep her close to you at all times, just encase, and hopefully she'll make it to the vet by tomorrow morning.. poor old sweetie, and poor you..  :hugs:

Thank you for all the responses.

We are keeping her warm in a blanket in our arms.

Breathing seems shallow. She has no energy.

Poor girl.

try to hand feed her or get fluids into her (more important as dehydration can make a sick rat much worse).

I have been feeding her the cooked oats mixed with water and applesauce for about half an hour. She is eating, but slow. Anything else I can add that I may have at home?

Wondering if i should take her two cage mates tomorrow to Dr Munn as well. If it is uri I will worry about the other two.

How is she? Praying that she made it through the night. :sad3:

Take the girls in as comfort to your sick lady.

For sick rats I use Ensure or baby cereal, to give them fluids and food at the same time. Oatmeal might require too much effort since you still have to chew it.

I hope she made it through the night, and I will likely meet you at the Clinic. I am going there now.

Good morning.

Mishka made it through the night. I had moved the hammock to the cage floor and she was cuddled in there staying warm.

Managed to find before school care for the kids and made it down to Dr. Munn on time in rush hour traffic.

She has a tumor on her torso that is likely not operable that is probably causing her symptoms. Breathing seemed okay. Lice have returned, which I had noticed last night, due to the stress of the illness.

I decided on palliative care for her as surgery will likely not be successful. Dr. Munn prescribed Doxycycline to prevent any respiratory illnesses secondary to the tumor side effects and Metacam for pain management, and of course Revolution (but just for her to start and not her two cagemates). We will see how she responds and how much quality time she has left with us. Hope the oral meds are easy to give.

I picked up some Ensure and baby rice cereal.

Nice to meet you too and thank you for the waiting room advice. :hugs:

Remind me what the brand name is of the aspen bedding.

Awww little fattykins :( Where was the tumour exactly? Was it internal or just under her skin? I gave her a small feel over but not a great one.

I have a video showing you how I syringe meds into rats if you need to see it :)

Thank you. I am hoping the pain meds may help her feel better and move more.
