Was feeding the kids their breakfast and I heard a strange sound...checked all the kids and Blossom has a sniffly sounding nose!!!
Called vet heading there now...Taking Blossom and Ellie too as she seems a little dull looking...cannot hear anything on Ellie but will have her checked...

Would the stress of meeting the boys and moving into a new cage have stirred this up so fast (24hrs)? Or could it be that for the past week I have been cleaning out the closet in the rat room and moving furniture to make room for the new cage and stuff...stirring up dust...I know I am a bit sniffly from it.

Both of those could be reasons why they are sniffly. If the vet says their lungs are clear, you could wait a couple of days before starting the meds to see if it will stop on it's own. Sometimes it does but rarely.

We jst got back and Jorats, that is exactly what the vet said probably all the changes and dust stirred up... No bad lung sounds at this time...
So we are waiting a couple of days...no more major changes in their room for now...and when the dust settles and the changes are not so new if she is still sniffling or getting worse she will go back for meds...
We have a follow up appt for Wednesday evening...will deside if we need meds then and she said to bring weights for all the rats so she can get enough meds for everyone...as if one is ill they all will be...
Is this normal to treat even ones that do not have symptoms?
I guess we did treat both my cats when one had resp infection...

*edit*
I just realized that its Sunday! :emb:
I was wondering why the price was a bit more than usual...it was an emergency call being Sunday, thought she was charging me per animal...which she doesn't normally do...I could not understand where everyone was, it was her and one vet tech...she said I was lucky they were there checking on a couple animals in for weekend...
Its been such a busy week I didn't even realize what day it was! :emb:

Wow I need to snap out of it!

Often some will have a myco flareup and others in their cage will not.
Even with secondary infections, some will be ill and others in the cage are just fine.
This is affected by many factors. Some rats may have stronger immune systems then others because of health, age, etc

I only treat the rats that are ill but keep a close eye on the others in case they become ill. If others do become ill, then they are treated.

Oh wow... you paid emerg prices. Ouch!
Sounds like your vet knows her rats very well. But like SQ said, don't start them all on meds, only those who need it.

My vet is very much the do the least evasive things first, normally saving me money...but...not today...but thats my butt head fault...thinking it was Saturday morning and maybe she would be in...I was lucky that she was there checkin in on and feeding and watering the animals that were there over the weekend...But unlucky that she took me in as an emergency...she must have said something about it being Sunday emergency price and I was too thick to take it in...
Oh well...my fault.
