help! i ordered ivermectin and it still hasnt come in. i thought it would be fine because she wasn't scratching much and there was minimal sign of mites. but now i've noticed bigger scabs and she's scratching alot more. :( i didn't think the ivermectin would take so long. does anyone have any home remedies that will aid with the scratching or something for the time being?

Do you have an equine store or a farm feed store? Chances are they carry ivermectin horse wormer paste. That works for rats as well.
In the meantime, some people have had success relieve symptoms by putting gobs of vegetable oil on the rats in order to drown the bugs but the rat will still need the ivermectin to get rid of the nits.

thanks! i did that and then it came in today. thank god! i rubbed some onto her mouth and she licked it up. do i just do one does and that's all or once a week until she stops itching? or how should i go about it

I would post the strength of the stuff you have it is easier to overdose them with ivermectin than revo. Let them help you with the dosing.

i didn't give her much to start off but the strength is 1.87% is says

The 1.87% paste is the right stuff but you should only be giving about the size of a grain of rice. Even twice that much could kill a rat. You need to treat every 7-10 days and sanitize the cage and accessories each time you treat. I think 3-4 treatments is usually enough.

As victoria said, Ivermectin has to be very very carefully given, as you can poison your rat. A tiny amount the size of an UNCOOKED grain of rice...how much was "some" that you gave her?

Should we give you signs of ivermectin toxicity?

if i do it right i dont think she'll be poisoned. i dont think i even gave the amount of a grain of rice to start of. just a tiny smear on my finger. i wanted to be safe, better too little than to much was my thinking. because i'd thought id ask you guys first. so thanks for the help! but it still would be helpful if you listed the sign of toxicity. just incase*
