Nail clipping

Hello my oldest rats nails have begun to get a little to long and very sharp so I have scratches all over me I had to get rid I of his nail filing ledge in his cage as it got destroyed I have a new one on the way but it might take a while due to the current situation is there any good way to trim rat nails or is it best to just wait thanks

Just one tip- they can easily jerk their foot just as you are about to clip, and you can accidentally sever a toe. Make sure the clipper is closed down on the nail before you make the final motion, if your little guy is fidgety. I find mine are much less difficult to clip if they have a treat to keep them engaged (for the back paws anyway). For the front paws I can hold them in my hand by holding the body with my lower three fingers while immobilizing the paw with my thumb and index finger.

They also make a rat wheel that has a sandpaper-ey running surface. I do not have that piece but I do own the wheel and I love it.
