I bought two rats recently from a shelter I had been going to for ages and one of them is now acting odd.

I knew this rat since when she was rescued, this isn't like her at all. When she was at the shelter she was slightly sleepy, liked her houses etc. When I Tom her home, I noticed she'd fall asleep a lot, in people's arms or in shirts and so on. I put this down as her loving attention and perhaps a little stress.

Just today we bought home her two sisters and now their in a cage with her, her sister T'Pol and their cagemate Rosie.

I just took them all out to play and had them in a big round cushion chair. I was trying to get in and put the rats on the edge of the windowsill - no more then an inch away - and then got distracted by the dog. I turned around and there was only Four rats!

I checked the floor and found Hoshi (the rat in question) had fallen to the ground. She was laying on her side and looking like she was falling asleep. I picked her up and she didn't wiggle in my hands, just was closing her eyes.

I put her in the chair, but the other rats away and then came back to find she'd barely moved.

Now she's in my shirt and I have felt her move her feet around and her head a little.

She was eating a day or two ago - thou him not sure about recently, all of our rats are albinos and it's hard to tell them apart. My sister said she saw her drinking earlier.

I can't tell if she is colder then normal, and I may have felt her shiver from time to time. Her sisters and cagemates are fine - I don't k ow what the problem is!

We had her in the vet a few days ago - she said her sleepiness and sore eyes may be from a lack of varied deit and the stress of being next to the dog kennels. And her new home of course.

She does have a bit of the red stuff around one eye - only a little and it's dried and looks old. Oh, and last night there was one mushy, smelly poop in their cage but we have no idea who it came from.

I don't have any other details and my google searches aren't helping - I think it's after get hours too, so I don't think I can call our rat vet.

Please help. :c I just lost my last rat... I don't want it to happen again.

EDIT: she just made a major move and is now sluggishly broxxing. Icant tell the difference between pain and pleasure though with their teeth.

I took her to my sister, who is good on "picking things up" from animals (my personal belief).

she was crawling away and trying to find a dark place. I think if anything the fall just stunned her. It's more /why/ she fell in the first place that I'm concerned.

I can't get her to a vet - My mum has the car and we live in the middle of nowhere.

No idea - she was one of twenty nine rats found in a cageent for two at a trailer park. Some bastard must have been feeding them to snakes and the breeding got out of hand.

They only could keep six - we've got all of them now.

I described all of them in the first post. She did have a soft green poop a little later, but that's about it.

By now she's better. Still really sleepy, but moving and so on. I ha her in my short with three of her sisters. I'm sure it was warm. xD

It sounds to me like a pituitary tumour or a head/internal injury. The bruxing, shivering, and boggling (if there is any) are all signs of pain and discomfort. A vet visit is very much warranted, she's unlikely to get better on her own.

Is there any links you can give me on PTs or head injuries for rats? Just to see if that's what it is? I will go see a vet soon.

I'll get back to you tomorrow about what I've figured out, I can't do it right now, this is far too much over far too short of a period of time and I can't handle it at all.
