Long story short, I was taking a bath and Matilda was running around my room. I guess she got in the bathroom and did something I never excpected- knowing there was water in the tub, she JUMPED right in! To make matters worse, I was under the water, rinsing my hair so I didn't see her until I came out and noticed a poor little sudsy rat engulfed by a wave. I barely saw her- she's white, and so are shampoo suds!!! I don't know how long she was completely under, but definetly a few good seconds. Of course, I pulled her out and luckily she wasn't... well... ya guys know. :sad3: :cry4:
The first thing I did was look at her face, which seemed okay except for how terrified it was. Then I listened to her breathing and that seemed fine, too. I set her down while I got out and she ran around like normal, except panicky and wet. Should I be concerned? She's still acting OK, and I'm struggling to keep her warm/dry her- she just fought off a upper respiratory, and now it's cold- and she's soaked. :emb:

I would dry her off and make sure her cage is nice and warm, maybe put a heating pad under a side so she has a nice warm spot. Animals can hold their breath just like humans. If she's acting normally and not coughing and wheezing and snorting, then she probably didn't inhale any water. She'll probably be fine.

Yeah, I hope. It's been a half hour or so now, and she's acting normal. I knew they can hold their breath- seen 'em dive before, I just got scared because I made a wave breaking the surface that sucked her up just as she popped her nose out. Weirdly enough, she didn't seem that scared afterwards- even when I squished her to my ear. Looks like I have a suicidal water rat on my hands. o.e

But i made her burrow into my blankets on the bed, and put her back in the cage once she was dry. She crawled under her shelf liner, so she should be warm. No heating pads on hand, but I think she's dry already. I'll give her some garlic to boost her immune... Gosh, I got so terrified! Ecpecially when I saw her under the water!!!

That little demon! Giving you a scare like that! lol glad she's ok though :)

My late Binky did that to me too. Scared the crap outta me! Apparently, he thought it was fun as he kept doing it 'til he passed.
