Roy's been on Doxy(0.1cc), Baytril(0.1cc), Theophylline(0.05cc,I might have spelt it wrong! LOL) and Metacam(0.1cc) since January 29th(Metacam and Theo are long term). He's been doing okay, perky happy and general normal lopsided 19 month happy old man. (Though, I think he may be older than 19months -- thats just the age I go by since the guy on Kijiji I got him from said he was about 6 months when I got him.)

Today, when I went to give him meds, I noticed one eye was kinda 'bloody' around on the lids, so I figured it's just poryphrin, got a warm, damp tissue and wiped it off. but on the tissue, it was REALLY dark red -- is poryphrin really that dark?

It just puzzled me because it seemed like the URI was doing great and going away, and he seems happy, healthy -- is it possible this is something that comes up with age? Maybe something just irritated his eye(my boyfriends thought, LOL)?

It can be very dark.
Any stress could have set it off, even the TV being too loud. Also, I've had a couple of rats with one mucky eye pretty much all their lives, tried everything but nothing seemed to stop the porphyrin.

Hmm. I wonder if something could have stressed him. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary except a visitor for the weekend but he seemed like he enjoyed the new person to bug and climb over. Strange!

It was just so odd how it came up out of nowhere, it seemed.

Or he could have got a little bit of something in there. I wouldn't worry too much if it hasn't persisted.

I've been watching him and he's got another mucky eye, now, but this time it's the OPPOSITE eye, and it persists quite stubbornly :/ I've helped him by cleaning it off a couple times because it makes such a mess around his eye(mostly in the corner closest to the front of his face, if that makes a difference).

He's still on metacam and theophylline, but not the baytril and doxy anymore. He's still as energetic as a baby and enthusiastic as can be even though that may not be a good combination for a boy who can't even run in a straight line, LOL. It's just that one eye. Nothing else about the eye looks strange, it looks identical to the other side, but it's just that damn poryphrin.

Would polysporin eye drops be worth looking in to? In case he scratched the outer of his eye or something? When does this become something to worry about when it's the ONLY symptom and he's acting perfectly fine? It's only new in this eye since I came home from a friends on Sunday.

He's about 20 months old now, I suppose.

You can kind of see it, but this isn't that good of a picture to show it I don't think.
