Best wishes to Jack, poor little man must be hurting. Is the foot red and really hot all over?

It's different colours from being swollen. I'm taking him to the vet tonight to get it looked at. There's green puss coming out of his left leg which he can't use and his right foot has a small deep hole that had puss from it that looked like an abscess. :(

I'll ask for something stronger for meds.

It'd be fine to soak his feet?

His hips seemed to be hurting him when I touched them and are quite bony I wonder if he's starting with HED too? or would it just be from losing weight so fast?

His penis has been good. Not to many penis plugs which is great!

Feel so bad for the guy

So Dr. Gallon put Jack on Clavomax and metacam and he has to finish his baytril. She's worried about how swollen his foot and leg are. So if the swelling doesn't come down with these meds we'll have to go back and get something else.

I'm glad he takes his meds really well he must know it makes him feel better. He's a fighter this guy for sure. He reminds me a lot of Chaos.

He doesn't seem to want to have friends so we're going to keep Jack here and send Francis to Kimber to foster with Baxter I think we have a home for Percy.

Jack seemed to be happier when he had the cage to himself so maybe that will help his progress. I guess from being a lone boy for his whole life he doesn't know what he's missing with having a friend. But if that's what he wants then that's what we'll do.

He might be one of those rats that wants to feel 100% before hanging out with other rats. I know I don't want to meet new people and be on my best behaviour when I'm under the weather

Has thought been given to culturing the bacteria for sensitivity? He's had an infection now for a long time.

I never even thought of that. If it doesn't clear up this time I'll have to ask her about that so we can figure out what's goin on.

Glad to hear he got through his appt and you have some new ammo to try for him. I told Percy today that he might have a forever home lined up and I think Baxter looked happy....Percy just wanted some babyfood, lol. Let me know if you're able to get up this week or not

Last night we got the scabs off Jack's swollen foot and the smell was just nasty and so much green came out of it as soon as the scab came off. So I think that'll help him. There are a lot of abscess looking holes in his feet. We got what we could of the green stuff out and soaked his feet in warm water and Epsom salts like Dr. Gallon said.

He was such a good boy and just sat there with Ang holding him. We soaked it probably for 5 min? Then put the cream on his feet. We put him in a temp clean cage 'cause his cage needed cleaning and didn't want his feet to get all yucky. So he'll be back in the FN again today.

Here is what his feet look like . I put them in spoilers because they are quite gross and not everyone likes to see the gross pics lol

His Right foot is the worst and you can see why we're worried over the swelling. His whole leg is like this. It looks worse in real life especially when I had just taken the scabs off. They came off really easy which is good.

His left foot is getting a lot better and is getting really close to being some what normal.

Oh boy... I'm not sure if that's bumblefoot at all. Does he appear to be in a lot of pain?

its starting to look like a systemic infection. Can you even consider amputation if necessary?

He doesn't seem to be in pain he still seems to be happy to be with us. I think the swelling went down some today and we got more puss out from the soaking.

I dunno if amputation would be something we should do with his age? I dunno if I would want to put him through all that...if he was younger I think I would ask Dr. Gallon about it but with his age and how he's been losing weight I don't think it's an option.

His other foot the bumble is almost gone from the sides so he's starting to get his regular foot back. When the swelling goes down on his other foot I dunno how that will be 'cause it seems twisted?

I noticed too he has something on his left eye. Looks like a small rough patch would that be a cataract?

cataracts look like small silvery discs IN the eye, if there's a rough patch he may have scratched the eye itself. You will probably want to keep it moist and try to watch for swelling or drying.

Poor sweet Jack, at least the lovely boy is happy and getting the best care he could imagine possible. ((hugs))

How do I keep it moist? Just water or get eye drops?

Maybe the cream isnt the best idea? It sounds like it is causing the infection to heal from the outside in, which is why there are pockets of pus under scabs. Could you try to leave the cream off and treat with just abs?
