how are things going Maple?
Things are alot better these days but Luna still hunts the boys down. I know with time things will iron themselves out but now I have another concern. I have spoke to Dee about Luna and her sleeping but still don't understand it. Luna sleeps alot........ALOT........ALOT. Everytime I walk in the rat area, she is sleeping. During "out time" walks around for maybe 2 minutes (literally) and then sleeps, eats and then sleeps. I have never gone in that room and found her awake and she has been with me for over 2 months now! Her weight is good, maybe even too good, her fur coat is excellent, thick and soft. walks with no problem, but she sleeps!! I have NEVER seen a female do this, it baffles me. :?

I have had a few that always slept in-cage but once the doors were open they were running around like mad with everyone else.

So even during Out time she sleeps as well? Do you take her out during the day? Most of mine wander around for a little and then find somewhere cozy for a nap if I take them out during the day.

huh -- maybe she's just wearing herself out with tussling? some people have noticed low energy levels with rats that have heart issues as they age. they get tired more easily. i think there are often other symptoms that would help to narrow that type of problem down though -- others could comment with more expertise than me on it though...

We were thinking she's just super laid back, if hshe had a heart problem I would have imagined the spay would have killed her, right? I am very interested in what other say about this.

She has out time for at least 1 hour every day. Most times it is after 9pm when Jill is finished work so she should be very active. When Jill goes to get her for out time, she is sleeping. Once in her bedroom, she will walk around for no more than 5 minutes and then she sleeps. When out time is up and Jill picks her up to go in the carrier, she wakes up until returned to the cage, she hunts down the boys for maybe 10-15 minutes and then she sleeps. She seems to "power sleep" meaning she will be in a deep sleep for 20 minutes then lay there with her eyes half open for another 20 minutes then its back to the deep sleep again. Somewhere in this sleepy ladies life she's eating cause I would say she is on the chunky side! I just don't know when. Not sure of her age but I would say 18-20 months.

Mmm... I've got a few that do that, especially my um fatter ones.
Is that it Jo? Luna is a fatty and its slowing her down. I'm telling you, she looks GREAT and when she's awake, she moves really good (ask the boys). 12 girls and this is my first like this. Hummmmmm, I guess I don't need to worry.

My two like that are are males. I haven't heard of a female do that...but it's not impossible.

It could be her heart but the fact that she still goes on a boy rampage, that's a good sign.

Some girls chub up, and get lazy after a spay. The sexual tension is gone, all that nervous energy is gone, but food is still there and long sleeps too. :cheeky:
