Hi just need a bit of advice I’ve got two rats on the older side of things wondering what the best mite preventative/ treatment is for them I’m based in the uk so will need to be able to access it from there any help would be appreciated thanks :)

Do they have mites, or evidence of mites or lice? If not, no need to treat. If so, salemectin, known as revolution, or stronghold, is the best thing to use. DO NOT use over the counter treatments. Those can be deadly to your rats. I know revolution needs to be bought from a vet in the USA, but you can get stronghold on the net from Australia, and possibly the UK.

As Dena says if you don't have an active parasite infestation, I wouldn't treat. In the UK if you cannot get Stronghold there is Beaphar Spot-on. Just remember that you need to treat 3 times a week apart for ivermectin treatment to be successful. Or 10 days apart
