Hi guys. I didnt know where else to ask. I've had male ratties before. But at the mo I have 2 boys. One seems really sexual at the moment... his willy keeps sticking out, and hes beating up my other rat (which he doesn't normally do) hes about 4 month old so prob at that cheeky stage lol. I just wondered if this is common? Can males be "In season" and is there anything I can do about it? Thanks :) x

The penis sticking out, could it be a prolapse? They don't usually stick out. Well at least none of my boy's did.

My boy definitely went into "season" every few months. He'd get aggressive, and he bit. Hard. Plus yep his little peeper would stick out sometimes and he'd clean it and it was definitely noticeable. Lol I had planned on getting him neutered, because the biting when he had his episodes, got dangerous. The episodes usually lasted about a week or so, once every few months. I think some males just have stronger hormones than others so it's more pronounced. Neutering should settle him down, it takes a few weeks for the hormones to lower and level off, but it should help.

Hi thanks for your reply. I dont know if neutering is a bit drastic as he doesn't seem too bad. Will just watch him at the moment make sure he doesn't get too aggressive, if he does I'll consider neutering. Cheers

Hi. I've never seen it before but doesn't look like theres anything wrong with him, hes penis just seems a little bigger than usual. I just wondered that and the aggressive behaviour could be hormones. He is a very big rat, was thinking maybe just showing dominance. Thanks

The one with more black,.you can see hes much bigger.
